Christmas Tour 2015!

 photo signature_zps1e656175.png
Well, this post has been a long time coming! The month of December has completely gotten away from me what with work and kids and life stuff. Here's a glimpse into the decorating that's been going on around here. I hope you're enjoying the season and the reason!

The living room is always my favorite when it comes to the holidays. This year I went with a simple approach: less stuff on the tree, less stuff on the mantle, less stuff overall. That was sort of my theme for decorating. To me, Christmas can start to feel a little claustrophobic, so I restrained myself. The change is subtle, though. In fact, you might not even notice.

I love these old piano books.
They were mine when I took lessons as a child,
complete with notes from my music teacher.

This is the Island of Misfit Ornaments!
Breakage.

My decorating goal each year is to put a touch of Christmas
in each and every room.

I can't wait till this baby blooms!

Even the powder room gets some Christmas!

We have paper whites growing all over the place. They aren't too
pretty like this, but
the wait will be
so worth it!

While I love red, the family room isn't the place for it.
I keep things a little neutral here.

Normally, this wreath goes above the living room mantle.
Not this year.

Finally, I purchased wreaths for the front windows.
I'd been wanting to do this for a very long time.
I love how it looks!

Greeting cards have all been sent,
but the Christmas rush is far from through.

I hope to post more next week, but
you know how that goes.
In any case, I hope all my blogger friends
have a
VERY
MERRY
CHRISTMAS!

A Lot (Little) Like Christmas

 photo signature_zps1e656175.png
So the outside of our house is done.
The inside?
Not so much.
Just this little "glow"
of
Christmas happy.
Slightly fuzzy Christmas happy.

Stay tuned!

Family Time

 photo signature_zps1e656175.png
Hard Monday, right?
All the anticipation of last week, all the massive preparation,
and now
it's over.

We managed to squeeze in some family time
at one of our favorite nearby resorts.

Let me just say,
teenagers
are
HARD!

Oh, it looks Facebook worthy, but there was
drama
and whining
and
conflict over electronics.

Teenagers are crazy.
Or, they just drive old people crazy!

There were moments this weekend when I
LONGED
for my girls as little people, when

an ice cream cone
made everything right with the world.

But they are growing up, which is actually
what they're supposed to do.

Y'all think I'm gonna end this post with one of my
cheerful, optimistic platitudes.
But I'm not!
Teenagers are hard.
I love them anyway.

Christmas Past

 photo signature_zps1e656175.png
There are many things to love about blogging—friends, houses, stories,
but an unexpected bonus is that you have a record of decorations past.
No more wondering how you did the mantle
or where you put the Nativity, etc.
Since I haven't even started decorating,
I thought I'd do a post on
Christmas past.

This was new last year. I wanted colors that worked better in our family room. Red just doesn't cut it here. This year my new thing (I hope!) is to add wreaths to a few of the front windows. I haven't purchased them yet, so if you have suggestions, please DO SHARE.
Are you decorating differently this year?

These Santa Claus figurines are from my childhood. I keep them here to avoid breakage.
While I love the look of a hutch that is color-coordinated, the baby dishes and heirloom pitcher and wedding platters are too special to hide. Sometimes decorating is about looking at what you love even if everyone else doesn't love looking at it.

Speaking of love, this "baby" will soon turn sixteen. I have a party to plan, too!

And all three "babies" will be home for the holidays!

I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving, and your weekend is filled with fun.
And leftovers so you don't have to cook!
