Party Animals

It was a crazy weekend.
Youngest daughter's 13th birthday party was Saturday night.
20+ girls.
Originally, I said there'd be 13 girls attending the party.

My day started with an early morning grocery trip.
Then it was home to decorate and organize.

We were blessed with perfect weather.
Not too hot.
Not too chilly.
Like I said, perfect!

We kept it simple: hamburgers and hotdogs on the grill, mac and cheese, chips, vegetable platter,
cake and ice cream.

At thirteen the girls entertained themselves. They sang and danced
and took A LOT of selfies.

Our local grocery store makes beautiful (and delicious) cakes.

It really was a wonderful evening.
What I loved most, however, was how this girl right here conducted herself.

She opened her gifts slowly. She was genuinely grateful and gracious.
She made each friend feel special.
She said thank you so many times I lost count.
And she has a great group of friends.

It's hard watching your children grow up. But knowing they are turning into
really good people makes the process so much easier.

I hope you have a great Monday. I'm going to work so I can get some rest.

Fall on the Outside

It's fall inside.

But I've put a few fall touches outside, as well.

The weather is supposed to be gorgeous here this weekend.
Good thing because tomorrow night my house will be filled with
THIRTEEN year olds.

Let's hope they can play badminton
and jump on the trampoline
and roast marshmallows

My strawberry cream hydrangeas are blooming again.
And if you can believe it, I only got one pretty blue bloom
on my endless summer hydrangeas this year.

I thought all was lost.
Guess what. It's now loaded with buds.
Mother Nature is mysterious that way.

I hope your weekend is glorious.

Grading Papers with My Ottoman Friend

I started thinking about my favorites.
Not my favorite students.
Teachers are supposed to love all their students the same.
Not true of furniture, however.
Have you ever thought about your favorites?
Those pieces you'd take with you, even IF
you could start all over in your
decorating dream world?

Well, I did start thinking about this, mainly because I
just didn't feel like grading papers.

Hey, there's Miss Mustard Seed's pretty dining room on the cover.
Talk about decorating dream world.
I love her style.
And I love that cow.
I digress.

Back to favorite pieces.
If say Sarah Richardson showed up and said, "Okay, I'm decorating your dream house. What stays?"
I would tell Sarah to take that navy ottoman you see there.
Found this little guy in a second-hand shop,
and bought him on the spot.

Picked out a delicious fabric,
and had him transformed.
He's a keeper!

I have one last paper in the stack.

Can I do it?

Or maybe I could climb on furniture and take decorator-ish shots of my ottoman instead.
Bloggers are a strange bunch.

Thanks for stopping by and looking at pictures of my ottoman.

Oh, and if you look inside this pretty magazine, you'll find another favorite blogger,
Kelly over at Essence of Home.

Fall Is Here!

Yes, I have accepted the fact that fall is here.
I think maybe I've embraced it even.
Here are a few pictures to share.
Happy Fall!

Happy fall, y'all!

A MONTH of Birthdays!

All three children were born in the fall.
The hubby was, too.
This involves a lot of cake, a lot of shopping,
and a lot of singing.

Now I love celebrating as much as anybody.
But September is crazy enough with the start of school.
Add four birthdays, and you have some insanity.
A sure sign of said insanity is purchasing a cake that would surely feed

when you have exactly four around your table.

Sadly, this Face Time daughter can't enjoy the cake.

And this one would surely love some cake, but she has a little weight problem.

We still have cake!
And in another couple of weeks we'll be celebrating yet another birthday.

Baby Girl turned thirteen!

Yep, more cake.

I'm starting not to like cake so much.

Happy birthday whoever you are!
Who knows, I might stop by with a cake.

Easing into Fall

It's time to face facts.
Fall is almost here.
On that note, I am embracing the bounty of my
hydrangea bushes.
Maybe I should rename this blog
Hydrangea Happy.

The truth is hydrangeas seem to love our soil more than daffodils.

Rather than jump right into my fall decorating, I've decided to take little baby steps.

This has been another busy week, and if I have to attend one more
back-to-school night, I might
have to be medicated.

My hubby had shoulder surgery on Friday, too.
He's a tough guy.
I, on the other hand, am a wimp.
Whilst in the recovery room, the nurse is talking to ME, giving ME
all these post-op instructions, and I got so squeamish
at the surgical/medical/bone/stitches talk,
I thought I might pass right out.
Never mind that I've had three children.

Luckily for both of us, my husband was coherent enough to recall everything she said.
And I managed to pull myself together enough to say thank you
and exit the hospital on my own two feet.

I hope this is a happy week for all, preferably a week that does not involve
a back-to-school night

House Tour

Work is in high gear these days, and I'll admit, I am still NOT used to the hectic pace. One minute I'm tired, the next wired. But I don't think fighting the reality of back-to-school does anybody any good, so I'm doing my best not to resist. I thought it might be fun to revisit some old pictures. I'm calling this post a house tour, but really it should be called a too-tired-to-upload-new-pictures-so-I'll-just-use-some-old-ones tour.

Call it what you like, but here goes!

I hope your back-to-school is off to a great start!
