My Sad Little Porch

My favorite room in our house is actually
the screen porch.

I relax here.

I read here.

We often eat supper here.
Or lunch.

Oh, but currently it's in a sad state.

I took this picture yesterday.
On March 30th, 2014,
about an hour
before it
Yes, it snowed again.
Ha! But it didn't stick!
Winter, you are losing your grip!

Here's what my porch looked like in all her glory.

Ah, summer!

You can't really tell from these shots, but the fabric is faded and stained.
Currently, the slips covers are with the lady who made
some of the window treatments in our house.
She is giving them a fresh new look.
I've chosen Sunbrella's cilantro green.

I am itching to clean this space and make it pretty again!

I'm seriously in a Think Spring mode!

Have a great Monday.

Mucky March Getaway

Last weekend the family and I escaped for a too-short weekend
at the beach.

My husband and I have been overworked, the reason I haven't blogged much these past couple
of weeks.
Plus, I am facing Mucky March.
It's cold and dreary.

But last weekend was perfect.
And Saturday was warm enough to sit outside!

We stayed at the Courtyard Marriott, which is right on the Ocean City boardwalk.
A lovely place, well decorated, too!

Middle daughter worked on her photography skills.
She's inherited my husband's college camera.

You might say youngest daughter was exuberant.

Sisters got along.
In our house we have a saying: Sisters first and forever.

Life is too busy for my taste sometimes.
Occasionally, it's good to leave your to-do list behind
and go enjoy the things in life that
actually mean something.

They're are calling for more snow this week.
The day is gray and cold.
But as I write this post, I am grateful to have had the weekend
with the folks I love most.
The Assateague ponies were pretty cute, too.

Have a good week!

Springy Spring!

Walked into my local Michael's last week and found this pretty vase.
I bought not one but two!

Right from the start, I envisioned pussywillows in these, and lucky for me,
the grocery store had them in stock.

Taa-daa! Have some springy spring, people!

I'll even light some candles for ya.

Soon I'll have to check myself into tulip rehab.
It's becoming a problem.

I know, I see the snow outside this window.
But very soon there will be green grass and a blooming magnolia tree.

I can't wait!

Linking up!

Good Country Houses

Most weekends I take a walk or a run or a walk-run.
I need exercise, but I also crave the outdoors, even in winter.

For a long while, I've been meaning to snap some pictures because there are lots of pretty houses along the way,
good country houses.

This beauty is less than a mile from our home.
Even in dreary, old winter, it's gorgeous!

There's a babbling stream, and when you walk/run/run-walk past,
you can feel the coolness of it
rising up.

It reminds me to listen.
It reminds me to keep quiet.
It reminds me to see.
Not look, see.

If you see closely, you'll notice an owl in that tree.
In the tree just outside this frame, there is another owl.

Signs of spring are here and there.

This brick home is always so neat and buttoned-up. At dusk, candles appear in the windows.

So classic and elegant.

I'd like to have a painting of this shot.

Middle daughter kept me company during this walk.

Often I hear Canadian geese squawking and honking and living it up.
They're a raucous bunch.

A river runs through it.

This house is like something from British literature, Thomas Hardy perhaps.
You can practically feel it's heart beating.
There are stories here.

And a sweet ass.

Not that kind of ass!
I'll call this one camouflage ass since you can hardly see him.

My favorite house of all.

Of course, there's this home, and she's a favorite, too.

Work has been too hectic this week.
I've spent too much time worrying about the long to-do list
and not nearly enough time

At some point this weekend, I vow to put on my sneakers and step outside.
I vow to relax.
I promise to have the presence of mind to be thankful.
