Home With Heart in the Heartland: African Queen

My little friend, Grace, isn't actually an African queen, but she certainly has the room of royalty, thanks to her creative mom.

I love this sweet yellow chest of drawers and the adorable elephant lamp—so many wonderful details.

Gracie also lives with a cool cat.

Youngest daughter and I had such a fantastic time in Chicago. This week it's back to reality for all of us, however. School days are here.

And this post wraps up our Heartland home tour. Hope everyone has a great Labor Day weekend.

Home With Heart in the Heartland: The Exterior

Just like my dear friend in the Heartland, this home is beautiful inside and out. Here are a few shots I took while visiting a couple of weeks ago.

The only part of our friendship I don't like is that we've never lived in the same city!

Everything about this home is personal, and I love the welcoming lanterns adorning the front walk.

 Such great details, too!

This house is pretty from any vantage point. Such nice balance here, yet not overly symmetrical.

Such a gorgeous chimney! Maybe it's just me, but I like the look of a house with open windows.

We spent a lot of time on this sweet porch.

Is it just me, or does the guy on the right look like Jack Nicholson?

Years ago when I was struggling to publish my first novel, I received a pig just like this one from my Heartland friend. The box was so heavy! Of course, I was delighted when I saw a little pig of my very own. Ever since I've considered winged pigs good luck, a sign of promise and hope. Impossible things, like pigs flying (and struggling writers getting published), do happen.

Not too long after my pig arrived, I got not one but TWO publishing contracts!

Here's hoping you have a miraculous weekend.

Home With Heart in the Heartland: So MUCH More!

As promised, I am continuing our tour of the Heartland home. Here's a look at the master bedroom and this fabulous sleigh bed.

Here's a look at my blogging-in-bed vantage point. Such lovely light coming in through the guest room window. And see the quilt on the bed? A wedding present from yours truly. I lugged that baby back to the states from Indonesia. Purchased it from some local artisans just outside the Monkey Forest.

While visiting, I took snapshots at night and during the day. I love the way light affects the look and feel of a home.

Got my copy of Traditional Home last week, and tonight I finally had a chance to look at it. Yawn. Sigh. I am sick, sick, sick of beige, beige, beige or gray, gray, gray. Yes, it can be lovely. However, when everyone does it, it's dull!

And speaking of color, check out this lavender powder room, complete with a pull-chain toilet.

And the teeniest, tiniest sink you ever did see!

Gets the job done, though, right?

And this sweet, sweet light fixture.

Classic and lovely, so I don't even need to describe.

On Friday I hope to do a post on the exterior.

BTW, this is post number 100.
