Isn't She Lovely?

This is Cassie, my 22 year old daughter.  Isn't she lovely?  Cassie moved back home during her last semester of college.  She has a cute pad above the garage with her own entrance and a bathroom.  She has an active work and social life, so we have to share her with friends and a boyfriend, too.  While she's busy establishing her career and deciding on the next move—she's talking graduate school in California—I am enjoying these last few months of having all three children under one roof.

As I was arranging flowers and snapping pics for this blog, Cassie was hanging out with me, which is why her pretty face is in this post.

The bounty of our flower gardens!  Can you tell I love color?

I love my Cassie, too.  What a joy and a gift and a pleasure it is to be her mother!

Summer Delight!

My little girls came home from camp today, and I have done nothing but laundry ever since.  Oh, and water the garden and grocery shop and help them unpack and change sheets.  Whew!  Just when I thought I had run out of steam, I decided to add some fresh flowers to the mix.  For some bazaar reason, this sort of thing chills me right out, and on a hot day like today, I need some chilling out!

The lavender is from the hubby's garden.  Smells like heaven to me!  The limelight hydrangeas are mine, and they are growing like crazy, providing some much-needed privacy around our backyard, too.

Wouldn't this be PERFECT for a bridal bouquet?

I love my living room.  Please tell me why I don't spend more time in here.  When one of my best girlfriends calls up to chat, this is where I go to talk.

Cute little bowl was a Home Goods find.  The shells I picked up on a beach in Africa.

Just kidding.  I've never been to Africa.  Don't I wish!  I did pick them up at Home Goods, though:-)

Tonight we're having fried chicken, cole slaw, baked beans, and biscuits for dinner.  Bought everything at the market today because tonight I plan on being lazy.  Hope this Sunday finds you all being lazy, too.

What? Me? Relax?

Welcome to the one space in my home where  I can actually relax.  What?  Me?  Relax?  Yep.  And it happens right here.

Every year I put a slightly new spin on things.  I rearrange the furniture or add something new, but the feeling remains the same.  Sit down.  Pick up a book.  Recline.  RELAX.

Here it doesn't matter if there's a faint coat of dust.  Or that the fern is shedding.

Other than the sofa and chair, nothing was costly.  Most are finds from a little antique store. Odds and ends I couldn't say no to for some reason.

More hand-me-downs from my MIL.

Plants that need fresh air and sunlight.  Like me:-)

And green all around.  Birds chirping.  The faint, distant whisper of car tires on pavement.  Kids next door playing basketball.  My children never think to look for me here:-)

Sunlight.  Moonlight.  Rainy days, too.

A Change of Venue

Sometimes you just need a change of venue.  I was a teeny bit stressed the last time I blogged, worrying about all sorts of things that were beyond my control.  But then, we went on vacation, as in, headed to the airport, boarded a plane, and blew out of Dodge.

Our destination?  California.  Yosemite National Park.  Can you say beautiful?  Breathtaking?  Life changing?  It really was that kind of trip.  Hiking and eating and sight seeing and bonding with my family.  Back to nature.  A reminder that the world is soooo much bigger than my silly little problems.  It took Mother Nature thousands of years to create this, which makes me question why I always seem to be in such a hurry.  Seriously, why?

The journey is pretty special.

The journey is the best part.

With so much beauty around, why not stop and breathe and say a quiet prayer of thanks?

I have wonderful traveling companions, after all.  And in spite of the fact that I will never be able to do IT ALL, at least not simultaneously, they still love me.  In fact, they really love me.

And I am grateful.
